Tim Goes to Run 21 in Birkenfeld, Oregon

On July 22nd through July 24th of this year my wife and I and a couple of friends decided to go to Run 21 in Birkenfeld, Oregon. This event is put on by the local A.B.A.T.E. chapter.  This was a weekend rally with several bands and biker games and of course lots of drinking and public drunkenness.

My wife and I packed our whole weekends worth of gear onto our bike.  Somehow we managed to fit all our food, camp-stove(it’s a backpacker’s camp stove), pot for boiling water/cooking, extra clothing, paper plates and plastic silverware, and drinks (including a six pack of beer) into the little green backpack on the ground in the picture below.  On the back of the bike are two sleeping bags and an airbed all rolled together, two lawn chairs, a tent, and the small bag on top contained two pairs of leather sandals.  My hat is even tucked into the fairing up front.  We were a bit loaded down, but very comfortable the whole weekend.

We arrived early, and the line before opening was farther than you could see.  I later was told this event had close to 3000 people.

We were camped in the back field of 3 large fields.  We had a great spot under a huge shady maple tree.  It was a very warm weekend, so we felt like we had one of the best spots there.

Who says that mattress isn’t going to fit into that tent.  It fits just fine lol.  I must have been too tired to take my Milwaukee boots off.

The guy on the green Harley below won the slow races (last one across the finish line wins), several times in several matches he brought his bike to a dead stop and didn’t touch the ground at all.

This is a small part of the crowd for one of the earlier bands called the Orphans.  The singer was a very entertaining and energetic singer.  We really liked this band.

This is a shot of “Molly Hatchet” below, the final band on the final night.

This is a random couple in front of us.  They looked very happy and seemed to be having a great time.  I really love this photo.

All in all, it was a great weekend.  There were lots of drunk and naked people running around, most definitely not something an average person would experience very often, but if you have never been to a motorcycle rally I would highly suggest going to at least one.  I have been to a few, and it’s an interesting, fun, experience every time I go.  If you like to people watch, it’s one of the best places to go.  There are many very interesting people at these events.  Great times for sure!!!
